Works On Paper

Compositions, conceived, worked through in drawings and designed into shapes, are traced, forming a pattern. The composition is finally played with in terms of color. -- Multiple color combinations are tried, moving and shifting pieces of color papers until a satisfactory arrangement has been achieved. -- Colored papers are made by first mixing oils on a palette, then rolling them onto Japanese Goyu papers, and dried. Colors may be overlaid with other colors many times, thinly, opaquely, and sometimes marked into while the paints are wet. Eventually the satisfactory composition, assembled from many pieces, is and adhered onto an archival, white, paper ground.
